Bullets For Friday

July 27, 2007

An exciting week … and the greatest story I can’t really tell you about …

Hey, tomorrow I’m posting on Sunshine’s Site. This is my first guest post so I’m throwing in lots of nudles of women … or maybe not … but it’s a travel post about Texas. All week people have been posting about their home state. And dude, there is no other state better than the great nation of Texas. Come check out my post. Or as AI says, “Time for a test toast!”

And the greatest story I can’t tell…

Evidently, there was a large explosion in Dallas this week at an acetaline plant. Big fire, lots of explosions and projectiles. I’m “fairly familiar” with this, but since I was “out resting” on Wednesday … well I think you are getting the picture. For a good idea of the enormity of this thing check out the pics in the two links below. Miraculously … NO ONE was killed.

WFAA

You’ll notice in this picture on the right a large tower with a round ball at the top. At the base of that tower is a train station. I know “someone” who was on a train at the base of that tower when the explosions hit and can give you a first hand account. We’ll call him “Deep Throat”. I’ll get you in touch with him if you want …

Got caught with some blow … now you’ll be in the pokey and some butch girls “hoe”. Oh Lindsay, where did our village go so wrong raising you? Our village truly raised another idiot. If only Dennis Quaid could see you now.

The one where you have to highlight to see details

July 20, 2007

You guys are funny. I appreciate all of you. And it has been, as usual, a wild week. You know if I don’t post very much it’s because I’m really working hard. But that’s the business I’m in. For the next few weeks I may struggle and have only one or two things to do. As my friend at Microsoft used to say, “Jef, it’s going in fits and starts.” So we’ll do some bullet points.

  • I have a deposit slip receipt I keep in my wallet for $7000. I just think it’s cool that at one point in my life I deposited $7000 at one time and it wasn’t a combo paycheck or anything.
  • I’m setting up DSL for my mom, who is 74. What an ordeal that’s been. She still has Windows 98. But it’s been fun.
  • I’ve been super stressed lately. M has decided to move back with us. ( highlight the space below to read the details )

M had decided before this past weekend it wasn’t such a great idea to live with her dad. Go figure. She hadn’t told him yet, but my wife filled her in on how he would react so she wouldn’t be surprised. Monday, M’s dad picked her up at the designated meeting spot and tore into her. Took her to his in-law’s house, where he lives, and put all her stuff in garbage bags and screamed at her in front of his wife and his in-laws. He called her the “C” word and a “W” and told her that, “you’re not my daughter, I don’t have a daughter.” So who would want to be his daughter? He just dropped her at our front door Monday night. We weren’t home, we were watching HP 5, so we turn our cell phones on after the moving and there are like 19 missed calls. My in-laws picked M up and took her to their house until we could get home. So I’m looking to add a line to my cell service.

  • My niece is really in a lot of trouble. That’s stressing me out too. ( again, highlight below to read the details )

My niece a few months ago decided she would leave her 5 year old child in daycare one day and take off with a guy that wasn’t her husband. This guy is a drug addict and steals her stuff and pawns it for drug money. My niece’s husband had to get emergency leave from Dubai to come home and get emergency custody of his son. My sister is now taking care of her grandson. My niece is messed up. She up and left last weekend and now has a place in a nearby town and is shaking up with the drug dealer again. She’s going to have to hit rock bottom. And she’s pregnant … Lord …

  • I’ll be posting next week on Texas on “And the Pursuit … ( Sunshine’s )” website. I get to guest host. She wants to do a travel theme so people from different states are posting about their state. Guess what, I get Texas … go figure … but stop by and check out my post on the 28th.
  • Here’s a funny joke I heard on the new Brad Paisley CD. Totally love this joke.

“My neck is so stiff. I took a Viagra last night and it got stuck in my throat.”

It’s A Good Friday … for a little YouTube train of thought

July 13, 2007

I am sooo ready to not be here. Check these two YouTubes out of Gary Coleman. The second one gives a good perspective of size. BTW – if there is a Red Brick Pizza near you and you are alone for lunch … go watch TV at your booth!

This is why I love my university. Dude, it’s got to be an agg school if they have a Meat Judging Team.

Meat Team wins national championship
Texas Tech’s Meat Science Academic Team is bringing home the bacon. The team won the 2007 national championship at the 60th annual Reciprocal Meats Conference at South Dakota State University, according to a press release from the Office of Communications and Marketing.

Full Story …

And you gotta love the Chinese bathroom. Does this not have photo opportunity written all over it?

A Little Hip-Hop to lose some brain cells to and end the week. ( Reminds me of Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance” and is eerily like an African American Riverdance)

of course I like the white guy Michael Hedges version because it shows us white guys have no business wrapping especially as middle aged men.

The Debate Continues

July 11, 2007

I’m going to drag out the argument about gay marriages. I have thought and thought and thought about this. I have yet to find someone to tell me how gays will benefit from allowing gay marriages. Wikipedia Law Dictionary defines a civil union as such:

Ceremony between same-sex persons which conveys to them certain aspects of marriage for purposes of that state’s laws (but not those of other states or the federal government). Rights are conferred in respect of property and probate law, adoption, insurance, hospital visitation, and wrongful death actions as well as insurance and state income tax laws. 744 A. 2d 864.

I’m looking at this definition and the amendments to the constitution and I’m not seeing what gays would gain. Are they being held or imprisoned illegally? Are they being denied the right to hold property or vote? Are they not being allowed to have offspring?

I think that it would be more advantageous to not gain the status of civil union. Other options are available. Business partnerships hold many more advantages than marriage. Even before civil unions there were “common-law marriages”.

I’m sorry, I just don’t see what “right” gays and lesbians gain, by having a recognized marriage.

For some tired-head reading read all this.

And as far as divorce rates. I think people are going to get divorced whether they are gay or straight. I’m not sure why this is a debate along the lines of minority status either. This is a behavioral choice, much like joining a religious group. You may have a zealous affiliation, but you don’t necessarily need special consideration or protection.

I know not everyone agrees with me, neither am I condemning anyone for their opinion. I’m just not sure what would be gained by allowing same-sex marriages?

Maxim’s Hot 102

July 7, 2007

Maxim released it’s “Hot 100” skin fantasy issue. I’m making up the skin fantasy part. To many’s shock, personal meltdown queen Lindsey Lohan was #1. A local radio station frequently ranks people by a simple comparison. It usually goes something like, “You’re telling me Sammy Sosa is better than Barry Bonds in your rankings?!?!?!?” And on and on.

I promised to touch on this and since it’s a sleepy afternoon and the Mrs and little a are driving back from extended family time I thought I would write this and take a nap.

I have two additions to the Maxim Hot 100 (MHOH). None of us know the criteria but clearly you have to have a meltdown or have been in rehad to make the list, but why is Britney off the list then. This makes no sense to me.

My additions are painfully obvious to me.

Kelly Pickler: Dude, ignore the Red High Heels video and this chick is all about hot. She appears in a new Brad Paisley video with the next absent member of the MHOH. I ran across Pickler’s audition on American Idol. Wow! She was good. And now with new and improved shorter hair.
Pickler In Her Prom Dress and Her Site

Taylor Swift: Not the raw energy and talent of pickler, but still mega hot on the Edge Hot Time Space Chick Continuum. ( Uber -> Hella -> Mega -> Smokin – > Totally). She’s just hot. Of course any woman who sings and can fog a mirror is usually hot to me.

And at the end of this Brad Paisley video you can catch both Pickler and Swift all in their hot goodness.

So Maxim, we solute you for poor reporting. Now I can take a nap.

I’d like to buy the world a coke

July 4, 2007

I don’t think I want to write a “stand up and cheer for the flag” post. But I also don’t want to be all glum.

I do appreciate how I have read post after post celebrating our country’s birthday. However, I look at our society and I don’t think a great mass of people truly appreciate what it is we have. Not the “right” to do this or that as those “rights” are held, maintained and continued by the government in power. I think we sometimes forget that in a matter of hours a new government can be established even in this country through coup de ta massive disorder or most things just short of chaos.

I thoroughly believe that we WILL NEED A DISASTER of great proportion to get us back to where we truly appreciate what we have. I hate that.

I know not all of you are Biblical scholars, but if you want to take a look at the Old Testament, you’ll notice that the Israelites go through generations of time where they don’t do what is right and good in God’s eyes. Then there is someone who brings it to their attention that they need to straighten up. They do for a while then we’re all back to being who we really are. Human. Usually, they end up in slavery or under someone else’s government.

I have hopes for our country, but I don’t believe in the UN, political parties or the pie in the sky hopes that the next president will be the next Moses.

Truth is, I really don’t want the next Moses. I just want my kid to go to school, make good choices and say nice things to her mom. I want to go worship on Sunday morning where I want. I don’t want someone’s opinion to become my fact.

So this 4th, I want us all to read a little history about where we were before my relatives came over on the 3rd ship after the Mayflower ( ya, I related to the Rutledge on the Declaration of Independence ).

If we do our history lesson properly we’ll learn that we go here through sacrifice and suffering. Not belly-aching and demanding what we “deserve”.

One day we’ll all see that what Baz Lurhmann said was right, “Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.”
